The Elizabeth Line is an urban-to-suburban high-frequency rail service in London and its suburbs. Its services have dedicated infrastructure in central London between London Paddington and Abbey Wood, London Paddington to Reading and Heathrow Airport to Shenfield.
The service is named after Queen Elizabeth II, who officially opened the line on May 17, 2022 during her Platinum Jubilee year, passenger services began on May 24, 2022.
The Crossrail or Elizabeth line as its official name has now generated some controversy on the issue of monetary, human lives and the delays in opening.
Controversy erupted in 2014 when a construction worker of Slovak origin was killed by a falling piece of concrete while working in a tunnel. An internal report alleged that workers were wary of reporting injuries for fear of being fired.
At the end of 2020, for safety reasons, the number of workers was reduced to maintained physical distance from each other due to COVID-19 pandemic.
