Norway is banning fossil fuels and investing massively in sustainable transport

About

Bussveien will be a BRT (Bus rapid transit) service from the Norwegian city of Stavenger, will have a network of 50 kilometers and will be one of the largest transport projects at national level and also the largest in Europe in terms of BRT networks.

The opening is scheduled for 2026 and will aim for passengers to get rid of cars and opt for more public transport, cycling and walking.

Controversies

So far, Bussveien has not generated any controversy, as the population of the city of Stavenger has increasingly come to accept a transport system, as they feel it will massively improve mobility as well as reduce car congestion.

Rogland County hopes the people of the city of Stavenger will make a change in their travel habits. It states that Bussveien is a great project that will be helping Nord-Jæren lower greenhouse gas emissions, zero growth in car traffic and less traffic noise.

Impacts

According to the impacts, the commune of Stavenger will reduce the local emissions of direct greenhouse gases from the transport sector by 80% by 2030 and by 100% by 2040.

The population should be able to carry out everyday tasks without needing a car in Stavanger and expects that the increased need for transport will be covered by cycling, walking and public transport.
