Avlo which means in Spanish (Alta Velocidad Low Cost) and in English ("High Speed Low Cost") is a high-speed service between the cities of Madrid, Zaragoza, Valencia and Barcelona, operated by the spanish national railway company Renfe.
It was announced on December 11, 2019, with services scheduled to start on April 6, 2020, but it has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the launch of the service would be delayed until new order which has entered in June 2021.
The Renfe service did not generate any controversy, the Spanish people ended up immediately joining the new service, especially young people, in addition the company decided to keep the same rolling stock, leaving the first class and cafeteria to keeping the tourist class (standard class) and more comfort and space.
Another reason why Renfe launched this service was due to rivalry with Ouigo (a subsidiary of SNCF, a French national railway company).
In terms of global impacts, Renfe has been increasingly focusing on sustainability and confirming rail transport as the least polluting mode of transporting passengers and cargo.
Thanks to the daily circulation of all its trains, it also avoids the emission of 5.7 million tons of CO2 annually. It represents a saving of 1.1 million tons of oil equivalent, a significant impact not only in the fight against climate change but also on public health and in 2050, Renfe aims to achieve zero emissions.
